How to Restart and Apply Config Changes on Your HumanitZ Server Without Losing Progress

Applying configuration changes to your HumanitZ server requires a proper restart sequence. Skipping the correct steps risks overwriting live settings or — worse — losing player progress. Follow this guide to safely restart your server and make every config change stick.
Before you touch a single setting, force a manual world save. HumanitZ relies on periodic autosaves, but a manual save is critical before applying any configuration changes or shutting down a live server. This one step is the difference between a clean restart and a frustrating rollback.
Head to your hosting control panel and stop the server completely. Whether you use BisectHosting, Shockbyte, PingPerfect, or a self-hosted setup, always bring the server to a full stop before editing any files — never modify config files while the server is running, or your changes may be ignored or overwritten on shutdown.
Navigate to the Config Files section of your control panel and open the HumanitZ Server Settings file — typically named GameServerSettings.ini, found at HumanitZServer\TSS\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\. This is your primary configuration file where you can adjust difficulty, loot rates, zombie behavior, PvP rules, player slots, and much more.
Make your desired changes inside the GameServerSettings.ini file. Use the Text Editor for direct INI edits or the Config Editor for a more intuitive interface if your panel supports it. Adjust only the values you need, and double-check each entry before saving. Once done, click “Save & Exit” to confirm your changes.
Important: Startup parameters set in your control panel’s Startup tab will always override values in the HumanitZ Server Config file. If a setting doesn’t seem to apply after a restart, check your startup arguments first — they take priority over GameServerSettings.ini entries.
With your config saved, return to the control panel dashboard and start your server. Your server dashboard displays live status, IP:Port, memory usage, CPU load, and RAM utilization — monitor these during the first few minutes after restart to confirm the server is running cleanly with the new settings applied.
Once the server is back online, log in and verify your changes are active in-game. Check that loot rates, difficulty settings, zombie behavior, or any other modified values reflect correctly. If something looks off, stop the server again, revisit your config file, and confirm no startup parameters are overriding your saved values. Your player progress and world data remain fully intact when this process is followed correctly.
