In HumanitZ, every bullet counts. The world is overrun by the undead — known as zeeks — and wasting ammo can mean the difference between survival and becoming one of them. Whether you’re a fresh survivor or a seasoned scavenger, mastering smart combat and stealth tactics is essential to outlasting the apocalypse.
Go Melee and Stealth First — Save Bullets for When It Really Matters. Firearms are loud and scarce. Gunfire without a silencer will attract nearby zeeks fast, turning a manageable encounter into an overwhelming horde. Instead, prioritize silent weapons early on: craft an improvised bow or scavenge a crossbow — they’re quiet, deadly, and their ammo can be recovered after each kill. For up-close encounters, use melee weapons or even your bare fists to knock down a zeek, then hold G to perform a finishing choke that costs zero ammo.
Engage Zeeks One at a Time — Never Fight a Crowd. The golden rule of HumanitZ combat is isolation. Whenever possible, fight one zeek at a time and do not attract a group or horde to your position. Use terrain, doorways, and chokepoints to funnel zeeks into a kill zone where you control the fight. Backpedal constantly — never stand still — and avoid burning your stamina with wild swings. Be deliberate and accurate with every strike. If you find yourself facing two zeeks at once, disengage and reposition. Retreating isn’t failure; it’s how you survive to fight another day.
Master the Silent Kill: Bow, Crossbow, and Melee Are Your Best Friends. Not all zeeks are slow or predictable — variants exist that can catch you off guard. Against standard zeeks, silent weapons are king. The bow and crossbow let you pick off zeeks from a distance without triggering nearby enemies, and arrows can be retrieved to reuse. For close-range stealth, a well-timed melee strike costs nothing and keeps your gunpowder dry for emergencies. Craft improvised arrows early if standard ones are scarce — just be aware they break on impact more often.
Choose the Right Profession to Stretch Your Ammo Further. Your starting Profession dramatically affects how efficiently you handle zeeks. The Amateur Boxer profession dramatically increases unarmed damage, making it ideal for early encounters when weapons and ammo are scarce — letting you conserve resources while clearing zeeks. For ranged stealth players, the Outdoorsman profession reduces bow sway, giving your ranged attacks more consistency when picking off zeeks from a distance. If you want to level up fast and unlock better options, Unemployed grants 25% more XP across all systems.
Use Terrain, Noise Control, and Cover to Avoid Detection. Stealth in HumanitZ isn’t just about silence — it’s about smart movement. Exploit terrain features and vegetation cover to avoid detection whenever possible. Avoid running through open areas near clusters of zeeks, as noise is a huge factor and attracts large numbers of enemies. Crouch and move slowly near high-density zones. Mark Points of Interest on your map so you can plan approach routes that avoid unnecessary zeek contact — and always have an exit strategy before entering any building.
When Guns Are Necessary: Aim for One Shot, One Kill. If you must fire, make every bullet count. Rifles like the M41 are accurate and deliver guaranteed one-shot kills to the head — treat every shot as one kill, especially when conserving ammo. The AK47 deals more raw damage but has higher recoil, so use it sparingly. Always aim for headshots to eliminate zeeks before they can alert others nearby. Silencers are critical attachments — never fire without one if you can help it, as unsilenced shots will draw a crowd fast.
Stock Up, Loot Smart, and Never Run Dry. Managing your ammo supply is just as important as combat skill. Always prioritize looting ammo and gun parts from Points of Interest, storage lockers, and hidden weapon stashes scattered across the map. Keep melee weapons and a bow as your primary loadout to stretch your firearm ammo reserves for emergency use only. Store surplus ammo at your base and always carry repair kits to maintain weapon durability — a broken weapon in the middle of a horde is a death sentence. Plan every looting run, fight only the zeeks you must, and you’ll outlast the apocalypse.
