Personalizing your HumanitZ server with a custom name and password is one of the first steps to creating a secure, welcoming space for your community. This guide walks you through exactly how to do it — quickly and correctly.
Step 1: Stop Your Server Before Making Changes. Always stop your HumanitZ server before editing any configuration files. Making changes while the server is running can cause settings to be overwritten or ignored when the server reloads.
Step 2: Locate the GameServerSettings.ini File. Open your server’s control panel and navigate to the configuration section. Find the file named GameServerSettings.ini — this is the primary configuration file that holds all your server’s core settings, including your server name and password.
Step 3: Set Your Custom Server Name. Inside GameServerSettings.ini, look for the [Host Settings] section at the top of the file. Find the line that reads ServerName= and replace the default value with your desired server name. For example: ServerName=”My HumanitZ Server”. This is the name players will see when browsing the in-game server list.
Step 4: Set a Server Password. Directly below the server name line, locate the Password= field. Enter your chosen password between the quotation marks — for example: Password=”YourSecurePassword”. Leave the field empty (Password=””) if you want your server to remain open to the public.
Step 5: Save and Restart Your Server. Once you have updated both the ServerName and Password fields, click Save & Exit to store your changes. Then restart your server so the new settings take effect. Your custom server name and password will now be live.
Connecting to Your Server. After restarting, launch HumanitZ via Steam and head to the Multiplayer section. Use the server browser’s search function to find your server by name, or connect directly using your server’s IP address and port (e.g., your.ip.address:7777). Make sure to apply the correct password filter if your server is password-protected.
Pro Tip — Keep Your Password Secure. Avoid using simple or common passwords for your HumanitZ server. A strong password keeps unwanted players out and ensures only your invited community members can join. You can update the password at any time by repeating the steps above — just remember to stop the server first and restart it after saving.
